The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. Established in 1914, this was our first visit to this site. All zoological exhibitions have their own uniqueness, good points and not-so-good points. The first thing we noticed about this park was the friendliness of the staff which we appreciated very much. Next the park itself is laid out very efficiently, the area containing the Rhinos was fairly large and also contained various large birds and antelope native to Africa which were viewed from a boardwalk and covered viewing area, the Giraffe paddock contained at least seven Reticulated Giraffe viewed from a covered overlook with a special area from where guests can feed the Giraffe. All cats sleep/recline nearly 22 hours each day and the cats in this zoo are no different however the enclosures for the Lions, Jaguars and Tigers were all very well done and designed to provide optimum viewing opportunities. An excellent zoo that we look forward to returning to in the future.
