Museum of Southern History, Jacksonville. This perfect gem sits south of downtown near the St Johns. A private museum funded solely by donations contains a small but rich collection of memorabilia, including Thomas Jacksons Mexican War epaulets, Joseph Johnston's side arm (mistakenly referenced as belonging to Jackson in this video), Harriet Stowe's makeup kit, one of three original flags which adorned Lincolns casket on the procession from D.C. to the Illinois statehouse and many other artifacts and exhibits. The museum which has been under fire in recent years in the form of local government offering to provide funding only if the curators agree to revise history to suit the current version (which the museum cannot do since they also maintain an archive and a library which contain the historical facts), and the public schools discontinuing field trips because the truth conflicts with what's being taught in the school system, as well as the usual panoply of demonstrators, protesters and malcontents. But as of this writing the museum survives.
